Study the lesson images. For the following exercises, draw balls and apples as large as the pictures and use heavy black lines. Draw the "rest line" (labeled D on the top drawing) on each of your drawings. The rest line represents the surface on which the objects stand.

Complete the following drill exercises. Instructors demonstrate each drawing and direct children to copy the drawings. Repeat for each of the drawings listed below.

  1. An apple with 1 ball to the right. Remember to draw rest lines for each object drawn.
  2. An apple with 2 balls to the right.
  3. An apple with 1 ball to the left.
  4. An apple with 2 balls to the left.
  5. An apple with 1 ball at the left and 2 at the right.

Complete the following drill exercises. Place vertical distance between the apples and balls to make objects appear closer or farther away. Study the image, and have children point out which items are closer and which are farther away. Items lower on the drawing appear closer, and items higher on the drawing appear farther away. Instructors demonstrate each drawing and direct children to copy the drawings. Repeat for each of the drawings listed below.

  2. Draw an apple. Draw two balls next to it, but farther away from the viewer.
